Steven Soderbergh’s last directorial endeavor scripted by David Koepp was, for me, a disappointment. I found the narrative of the ghost story Presence sorely undercooked, the violent finale lurid and cheap, and the dynamics of the haunted-house family annoying and unpersuasive. That was just a couple of months ago. And so I approached this second Koepp/Soderbergh 2025 collaboration with reluctance.
