First impressions of Return to Seoul
I saw this ten days ago, but the demands of Winter Quarter grading and Spring Quarter planning kept me too busy to write until now.
I hate it when this happens.
First, the world conspired to keep this movie from me until the film critics’ party was almost over. And then, when I finally had a chance to see it land emerged bursting with enthusiasm, I had no time to compose my thoughts because it was the end of Winter Quarter at the university where I teach, and I had dozens of student writing portfolios to grade and a new course syllabus to design.
So here, at last, having conquered a mountain of school work, I’m finally able to sit down and give a shape to my thoughts about this remarkable film. Fortunately, it remains vivid in my memory, and I can still write about it in detail.
